Tattoo and Associated Trades
While not always a legal requirement, most councils require appropriate insurance as part of their licensing conditions. Even where it’s not mandatory, insurance is strongly recommended to protect your business from claims related to injury, infection, property damage, or allergic reactions.
Our bespoke Tattoo policies can cover you for the following:
- Public liability: Covers injury or damage claims from clients or visitors.
- Treatment risk: Covers complications from tattooing or infections.
- Contents insurance: Protects your equipment from loss or damage.
- Work away cover: For conventions or mobile setups.
Yes — Treatment risk can be included with limits from £50,000, £100,000 or £250,000. This covers injuries or infections that may occur during or after tattoo procedures.
Note – If you choose to remove treatment risk, you will NOT be covered.
Premiums start from £159.00 for £2 million public liability cover (Excluding treatment risk). The exact cost depends on your setup, services, and location.
Not necessarily. Tattoo Insure offers policies that include work away cover, which protects you while working at conventions or other UK based studios.
Most studios need a combination of:
- Public Liability
- Treatment Risk Cover
- Professional Indemnity
- Contents/Equipment Cover
- Employers’ Liability (if you employ staff or apprentices)
Usually, yes. Freelancers, chair renters, and guest artists are typically responsible for their own treatment-risk and public-liability insurance unless the studio specifically extends their policy to you.
Contents and equipment cover can extended to include:
- Tattoo machines
- Needles, inks, and disposable supplies
- Piercing tools
- Furniture and workstations
- Sterilisation equipment
- Jewellery and aftercare products
Yes — if you employ staff, even part-time or apprentices, you are legally required to have employers’ liability cover included on your policy.
Treatments & Services Covered
Our policies are bespoke, but as a minimum requirement we ask for at least 3 months of active studio experience and for you to hold a full licence. Certain services, such as Laser Tattoo Removal or IPL, require a minimum of 2 years’ experience along with the relevant qualifications.
For Tattooing, Fine Line Tattooing, Piercing and SMPU, comprehensive training courses may be accepted subject to insurer approval.
Yes — Tattoo Insure offers cover for body piercing, Laser and semi-permanent makeup, though some procedures (like genital piercing) may require extra info for approval.
Yes — Providing you have the relative experience within the industry, we can extend policies to provide Insurance cover for Fine Line Tattooing.
Providing you have all the relative qualifications/or experience and no pending claims, we can include body piercing, semi-permanent make up or microblading at no extra cost.
